Seah Lay Hoon
Lay Hoon Seah joined Learning Sciences Lab as a Research
Scientist in July, 2012. She did her post-doc at the University of Gothenburg
(Sweden) and obtained both her Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Education
from the University of Melbourne (Australia). She also has a Postgraduate
Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education (NIE) and a Bachelor
of Science in Biochemistry (Merit) from the National University of Singapore.
She began her career in education as a secondary school
teacher specializing in Chemistry and General Science. In-between her masters
and doctoral study, she was involved in a range of research projects as a
research associate in the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice and
Learning Sciences Lab in NIE as well as in the International Centre for
Classroom Research in the University of Melbourne.
Her current research work focuses on students’ use of
linguistic resources in science classrooms and how teachers can enhance
students’ use of the scientific language.
