Voyage to the Age of Dinosaurs (VAD) explores various ways to support
meaningful learning of Earth system science for Singapore’s secondary
level Geography in and out of school boundaries. 

As the name “Ideas First” suggests, our approach places work on ideas by the individual and community as its foremost design consideration. The aim is to go beyond simply learning about science, to learning how to engage as scientists do in making sense of the world around them. 

MVT II is a follow-up to the Learning Sciences Laboratory’s MVT project (http://www.nie.edu.sg/nienews/feb09/14-1.html), which was previously carried out in collaboration between Maris Stella High School, Coral Secondary School and international partners to promote inquiry-based and student-centred science learning in secondary schools in Singapore. 

This is an exploratory project co-designed with officers from the Ministry of Education and teachers, enacting various intervention-designs through the fictive world of Second Life, in Science, Mother Tongue and Geography.

In this project, we aim to understand the use of video-based tools with annotation functions to help teachers make sense of and construct meaning with colleagues on pedagogies and practices. We have used a collaborative video sharing and annotation tool called DIVER, and adopted a modified lesson study cycle to facilitate iterative processes of annotation, reflection, and discussion.

Statecraft X is a 24/7 persistent-world, multiplayer game for students to construct meaning and identities in the context of citizenship education and social studies. The game is played on Apple iPhones

Youth Tell aims to foster youth literacy practices "outside of the box" in Singapore Normal Technical English and Social Studies classrooms as well as in out-of-school programs that we design for youth. Using digital storytelling as a platform and the New Literacy Studies as a theoretical lens we design workshops that push the boundaries of what is expected of lower-tracked and otherwise marginalized youth.
